Behemoth

After doing some rocks and plants for Drone I felt fairly confident with the style. The next thing I was asked to was to model the Behemoth. This is a large dinosaur like alien that would play a role in the short film. This would later be rigged and textured for the project. Here are some renders of it towards the end of the modeeling process. (Original concept art done by Rachel Denton)

Some of the first work I did for the third year films was for the short film 'Drone'. The planet depicted in the short story is largely rocky and barren throughout the first part of the film. I started by modelling rocky structures as well as some dessert like plants to get a feeling for the style.

post pitches

Unfortunatly after a strong pitch our project did not get the green light. Therefore I started looking into the other projects. As a 3D artist I prodominantly looked at two projects, Drone and I Am Dyslexic. Drone will be a short film directed by Rachel Denton about a small robot (Drone) that finds itself on a foreign planet with instructions to search for life and determine if the planet holds condidtions for life. I am Dyslexic, directed by Mads Johan Ogaard, tells the story of a boy struggling with dyslexia through the visual representation of him lost in a world of books, his struggles lead him to climb a mountain of books and we follow him along his journey.

Rat Race characters

Both being predominantly 3D FVX artists not specialising in animation Calum and I decided to go for 2D rotoscoped charcters taking inspiration from films such as Scanner Darkly or Waltz with Bashir. We hoped these 2D rotoscope charcters would fit the aesthetic of the film we were creating.

As we planned to have alot of crowded scenes we planed to keep the background/midground characters fairly low detail, saving the higher detail shots for the protagonists close up. Here are some tests that I did.
